There are thousands of web development companies and freelancers in India, and on their own websites they all look excellent. The difference shows up after you have paid the advance. These 12 checks help you choose a partner who will actually deliver a website that brings in enquiries — whether you hire Mantra Tech Fusion or anyone else.

Before you start: know what you need

Write down in a few lines what the website must do. “Get enquiries from buyers in other states”, “sell 200 products online” and “take appointment bookings” lead to very different websites and very different prices. With a clear goal you can compare quotes properly.

The 12 checks

1. Open their live websites on your phone

Screenshots can be edited; live websites can't. Ask for links to three or four sites they built for businesses like yours. Check them on your own phone: do they load quickly, is the text readable, and is it easy to call or send an enquiry? Look for the developer's credit in the footer.

2. Speak to the person who will build your website

In many companies the salesperson you meet never touches your project. Ask who will design and develop it and speak to them directly. You will learn much more from a ten-minute conversation with the builder than from a sales presentation.

3. Check that they ask about your business

A good developer asks who your customers are, what they search for, what they need to see before contacting you, and how enquiries reach you today. If a company quotes a price without asking anything, expect a generic template.

4. Get a written scope

The scope is your protection. It should list:

  • Every page and the main features on each
  • The platform — WordPress, Shopify, WooCommerce or custom-coded
  • Number of design revision rounds
  • Who provides text and images
  • Timeline with milestones
  • What happens after launch, and for how long

5. Make sure you will own everything

The domain should be registered in your business name with your email. You should receive hosting, website admin and domain logins at launch, and the website files should belong to you once you have paid in full. Get this in writing.

6. Ask why they chose the platform

WordPress suits most business websites that need regular content updates. Shopify is quick for online stores with a monthly subscription. Custom PHP or Laravel development makes sense for portals, calculators or unusual workflows. A good company explains the trade-offs for your case instead of pushing the one tool it knows. Our technology stack guide explains these options in detail.

7. Confirm SEO basics are included

Every business website should launch with unique page titles and descriptions, a sensible heading structure, compressed images, an XML sitemap, Google Search Console and Google Analytics set up, and a connection to your Google Business Profile. Ongoing SEO is a separate service — but the foundation should not be an extra.

8. Ask how they handle speed and mobile

Most visitors in India arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. Ask how they optimise images, which plugins they avoid, and whether they test on real devices. Google's Core Web Vitals — loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability — are a reasonable benchmark to discuss.

9. Understand security and backups

Ask about SSL (HTTPS), login protection, spam protection on forms, software updates and backups. Find out who is responsible if the website is hacked or goes down.

10. Pay in milestones

A fair structure is an advance to start, a payment when the design is approved, and the balance when the website is complete and tested. Avoid paying everything upfront.

11. Know what support you get after launch

Ask how long free support lasts after launch, what it covers (bugs, small text changes?), how quickly they respond, and what an annual maintenance plan costs.

12. Verify reviews independently

Testimonials on a company's own website are easy to invent. Check Google Maps reviews, Justdial or other public listings, and if possible call one or two past clients.

Red flags: walk away if you see these

  • “Guaranteed #1 on Google.” No company controls Google's rankings.
  • A price with no questions asked — it will be a template with your logo on it.
  • The domain registered in their name, or a refusal to share logins.
  • No written scope or contract.
  • Badges and numbers you can't verify — certifications, “500+ clients”, awards with no link.
  • 100% payment before any work.
